Description
The Stories to Awaken the World (醒世恒言) is a collection of vernacular short stories compiled by the late Ming Dynasty writer Feng Menglong. The book was first published in 1627 during the Tianqi reign. The book consists of forty stories, with a rich variety of sources, mostly from folk tales, historical accounts, and Tang and Song Dynasty novels. Most of the works still revolve around the theme of marriage and love. The book has a solid and complete structure, vivid characters, and reflects to varying degrees the social aspects and emotional sentiments of the time. Together with the author’s previously published “”Stories to Admonish the World”” (喻世明言) and “”Stories to Alert the World”” (警世通言), “”Stories to Awaken the World”” is collectively known as the “”Three Words””. —- ISBN: 9798327341418
