Description
The Manapouri Power Project was a very daring civil engineering concept for 1960’s New Zealand. It entailed harnessing the abundant stored waters contained in Fiordland Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri. Both lakes are adjacent to each other with waterway connections feeding the Waiau River that runs to the sea near Southland’s Tuatapere.
