In 1888, Dr. William Lane of Homer, Michigan, who had the additional task of editing the weekly Homer Index, took it upon himself to interview his patients and early settlers of his home town, then barely a generation old. He assembled their stories and interactions with the native peoples of the area into a small history, which was printed, but from all indications, never was fully assembled in book form. The pages, with their occasionally erratic numbering and organization, were found during a liquidation sale of an area bookstore.
