Description
Sarah, co-owner of The Little Cake Shop with her mother, Miriam, is a jovial, curvaceous thirty-one-year-old, newly divorced, loves pistachio ice cream, Diane von Furstenberg dresses, and her dog Percy, an old golden retriever mix who’s been rubbing his ear on the carpet. She takes him to the veterinarian clinic where she meets Dr. Patrick Bontz, a handsome, unassuming veterinarian who has a son, Ian. He is smitten by her and, breaking protocol between doctor and patient, asks her for a date. She hesitates at first even though she finds him attractive. In the end, she agrees to go out with him, deciding finally to follow her mother’s advice. Miriam has been encouraging her to start dating again because, though it’s been five months since the divorce, she hasn’t moved on. She still loves her ex-husband Breton. Breton, a contractor from a wealthy family, still loves Sarah, but their marriage was complicated. Sarah was suffering under the constant barrage of insults and criticisms spouted by her mother-in-law, Margaret, about her looks and her body. Breton hardly intervened and made excuses for her mother’s behavior. What made matters worse for them was Sarah’s struggles to get pregnant. They tried all possible avenues, including several in-vitro fertilization procedures. The last unsuccessful attempt took a toll on both of them emotionally. Sarah was the one who asked for a divorce. She told him she didn’t have the energy anymore to put up with his mother, that it was affecting her capacity to love him. Though all that’s true, the real reason she wanted a divorce was to set Breton free from her, a self-sacrificing act of love she would regret later. Sarah becomes enamored with Patrick’s son, Ian, who is the embodiment of the children she couldn’t have. In time, she falls in love with Patrick. And though it seems impossible to fathom, she realizes that she’s in love with both Breton and Patrick, putting her in a state of flux. —- ISBN: 9798218410483
