The Gallic Wars

Julius Caesar’s firsthand account of wars he fought in Gaul between 58 and 52 BC, in seven books one for each year. The final published version contains an eighth book, written by Aulus Hirtius, consul of the Roman Republic in 43 AD, after Caesar’s death.
