He obtained a Theology degree, followed by a Ph.D degree from Syracuse University. He lived through the struggle of Sun Yat-sen’s Chinese Republic, the Japanese invasaion during the Second World War, the civil was between Mao Zedong and Chiang Kaishek,and the takeover of China by the Communists. Interspersed are chapters on how his descendants cope with present day China under the Chinese Communist Party.
